Description
7 Langtongate in Duns is a later 18th century end of terrace house that has undergone some alterations and additions. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features five bays, although only three bays are visible from the front. The exterior is rendered with ashlar margins, and the first-floor windows are set hard under the eaves.
On the north elevation facing Langtongate, the house displays a two-storey, three-bay layout. There is a modern door at the center with a window above it, and to the right, a barred ventilator serves the cellar. The ground floor has widely spaced windows in the flanking bays, and there is a single-storey bay to the right with one window.
The west elevation features a blank gable with a projecting gable at the ground level.
On the south elevation, the house is two-storey with an attic and five bays. At the center, there are six steps leading up to a two-panel door with lying-pane glazing in the upper section, and above it, there is a multi-pane window. The wallhead is raised with a cat-slide roof. To the left, two bays are obscured at the ground level by a modern lean-to sun lounge, which is accessed from the house through French windows; both bays have windows on the first floor. To the right, there are two irregular bays featuring a boarded door and window at ground level, along with two windows on the first floor. Flanking the center bay are a pair of bipartite timber dormers with cat-slide lead roofs. There is also a single-storey range to the left, which has an advanced gabled quadripartite mullioned and transomed window.
The windows throughout the building are 12-pane timber sash and case, with a 16-pane window at the front. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar coped skews, a brick apex stack, and thackstanes.
