Description

Forest Lodge, located on Ettrick Road in Selkirk, dates from around 1845 and has undergone later alterations and additions. This is a 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan house that was formerly a Free Church manse. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings and features quoins.

On the northeast elevation, there is a panelled door with a 3-pane rectangular fanlight, set within a pilastered and corniced doorpiece. Above this, there is a blinded window on the first floor. Each flanking bay has a window on both floors. To the right, there is a modern garage that is set back.

The southeast elevation has four bays, arranged in a 3-1 grouping, with a blank bay at the center of the three-bay group. Each flanking bay has a window on both floors. There is possibly a later full-height addition to the left, which includes a window on each floor and a recently installed small window on the first floor to the right.

The southwest elevation is not fully visible as of 1995. It features a single-storey later addition at the center, at the re-entrant angle, and a lean-to conservatory on the first floor. This has a door and a plate glass rectangular fanlight above, flanked to the right by a window that returns to the northwest elevation. There is a window on each floor of the bay to the left and a full-height projection or bay to the right.

The building has modern glazing and a slate piended roof with wallhead coped ashlar stacks on the southeast, northwest, and the bay to the right of the southwest elevation.

Inside, the shutters are in place but not operational.

The boundary wall is constructed of whinstone rubble with a rubble coping.
