Description

The property at 19 Heatherlie Park in Selkirk is a gate and gatepiers dated 1860, featuring later additions and alterations. It is a 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan house constructed from stugged sandstone ashlar with droved ashlar dressings, and painted harl on the sides and rear. The building includes a base course, a band course between the storeys, and an eaves course.

On the southeast elevation, the windows have corbelled cills. The central gabled bay features a deep-set panelled door with a rectangular plate glass fanlight, set within a corniced doorway. Above, there is a datestone and a window at the first floor, with a corbel table stepping up and over the window. To the left, there is a ground floor window and a bipartite window at the first floor that breaks the eaves. To the right, a canted 4-light window at the ground level has a cill course, cornice, and blocking course, with a bipartite window above that also breaks the eaves.

The northwest elevation has a full-height gabled projection to the right, with a 2-storey addition at the re-entrant angle that includes a door at ground level and a border-glazed window above. There is a bipartite window at the ground level and a window at the first floor of the return elevation of the addition. The return angle of the projection features a ground floor window and a bipartite window that breaks the eaves above.

The southeast elevation has plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the rear features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The slate roof is adorned with terracotta cresting and has exposed rafters at the eaves. The central gable on the southeast elevation has trussed construction with bargeboarding and a finial, and each first floor window that breaks the eaves has a half-piended roof. Ashlar coped stacks and moulded guttering are present on the southeast side.

Inside, the drawing room features a timber chimneypiece, while the dining room has a white marble chimneypiece with a corbelled shelf. There is stained glass in the vestibule door and stair window, and shutters are in place.

The property is flanked by cast-iron gatepiers that support a decorative wrought-iron and cast-iron pedestrian gate. The boundary walls are constructed from rubble, and there are single-storey rubble outbuildings, including a gig house/garage and a separate outhouse to the north.
