Description
The North Gate and policy walls at The Haining date from the late 18th to early 19th century. This classical gateway is made of ashlar and features a round arch, with flanking quadrant walls oriented to the north. It has a base course, coping on the walls, a string course at the impost, and a dentilled architrave and cornice. The central round-arched gateway is fitted with a wrought-iron two-leaf gate, flanked by coupled pilasters. Below the cornice, there is a heraldic shield carved into a plaque at the center. The quadrant walls are finished with coped square-plan piers, and rubble policy walls extend on either side.
