Description

Later 19th century with later additions and alterations. 3-storey, 5-bay terraced tenement with shops at ground; sited on ground falling to SW. Polished ashlar at ground, stugged ashlar to upper storeys, polished ashlar dressings at 1st floor, droved ashlar dressings at 2nd floor; whinstone rubble with ashlar dressings to rear. Base course; cornice between ground and 1st floor; cill course to 3rd storey; eaves course; stop-chamfered arrises at ground with basket-arched openings; plain margins to openings to upper storeys.

NW (WEST PORT) ELEVATION: symmetrical. 2-leaf panelled door to centre at ground with 2-pane rectangular fanlight; block with 2 couchant lions above cornice; window to each floor above. Modern glazed door with plate glass rectangular fanlight above flanked by 2-pane fixed shop windows to 2-bay group to right; window to each floor of each bay to right of centre. similar arrangement to 2-bay group to left of centre, except partly glazed and panelled door between windows at ground.

SE ELEVATION: full-height brick platformed addition to outer right of Nos 23 and 25 West Port.

4-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof with leaded platform at apex. Ashlar coped mutual stacks.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1996.
