Description
Victoria House, located on High Street in Lochmaben, appears to have been built as a Free Church manse around 1843, although it has undergone alterations and features a large wing to the south that contains the main entrance.
The original house is two storeys high with three bays, facing the street. It has a deep plan and a gabled roof, constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and raised margins. The prominent end stacks have grouped corniced octagonal flues. The original central door has been changed to a window, and all the glazing consists of small-paned sashes.
The addition features an advanced gabled bay that also faces the street, with three south-facing bays. The inner bay is set forward and contains the main entrance of the house. This section is built from stugged red ashlar with polished dressings. There is also an outbuilding to the west of the house.
