Description
Greenburn is an early 19th century farmhouse that has undergone later additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan and a projecting porch at the front. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing that forms an L-shape, along with additional single and two-storey extensions. The exterior features predominantly lined render, with squared and snecked tooled sandstone on the porch, harled surfaces on the rear additions, and red sandstone ashlar dressings. Architectural details include a base course, eaves course, quoins, plain margins, and projecting cills.
On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a projecting flat-roofed porch with a cornice, centered at the ground level, which has steps leading to a timber panelled door. Flanking the entrance are single windows at ground level, with single windows in all three bays on the first floor.
The northeast (side) elevation features a gable end to the left with single windows on both floors, offset to the right of center. To the right is a regularly fenestrated two-storey, two-bay wing. There is also a single window in a single-storey addition recessed to the outer right.
On the northwest (rear) elevation, a two-storey gabled wing projects to the left, with a lower gabled projection at the front. The principal block is recessed to the right, with various single and two-storey additions at the front.
The southwest (side) elevation has a gable end to the right with a single window at ground level, offset to the left of center. There are single windows at both floors in a flat-roofed addition to the left, along with a single-storey addition projecting to the outer left.
The windows are timber sash and case, featuring plate glass with 8- and 12-pane glazing. The roofs are covered with grey slate, and there are stone-coped skews and sandstone ridging. Brick-built apex stacks with circular cans are present.
The interior was not seen in 1999. The property is partially enclosed by rubble garden walls.
