Description

Slighhouses Farmhouse is a traditional farmhouse dating from the later to late 18th century, with additional alterations and extensions. It is a 2-storey, 3-bay structure with lower wings at the rear that form an L-plan. There are single-storey lean-to and piend-roofed additions in the rear re-entrant angle. The exterior is dry-dashed with rendered dressings, featuring narrow quoin strips, rendered margins, and flush cills.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a step leading to a deep-set timber panelled door that is centrally located at the ground level, accompanied by a letterbox fanlight above. A single window is aligned above the door at the first floor, with additional single windows at both floors in the flanking bays.

The southwest (side) elevation displays a blind elevation to the gabled block on the outer right. To the left, there is a lower, 2-storey wing with a modern window centered at the ground level and another window at the first floor. The outer left features a lower wing with a single window centered at the ground.

The northwest (rear) elevation includes gabled wings projecting to the outer right, with a single-storey lean-to addition to the left. A bipartite window is set in the piend-roofed addition, which is recessed to the outer left.

On the northeast (side) elevation, there is a gabled block to the left with single windows at both floors, offset to the left of center. The right side features a blind elevation to the piend-roofed addition, along with a 4-bay lean-to addition that is recessed to the outer right, which contains a single window to the left and boarded timber doors in the remaining bays to the right.

The windows predominantly feature 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, although some modern windows are present on the sides and rear, along with small rooflights. The roofs are covered in grey slate, with stone-coped skews and cast-iron rainwater goods. The chimney stacks are brick-built with cornices, featuring triple flues for the main block, while the rear has circular cans, with some remaining stacks missing.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The garden walls consist of rubble with square coping, partially enclosing the site, and there are red brick linings to a former walled garden on the side.
