Description
Clarabad is a farmhouse dated 1852, with later additions and alterations. It is a 2-storey building with a rectangular plan and five bays, featuring a first floor that breaks the eaves. The front is constructed of squared and snecked tooled cream sandstone, while the sides and rear are made of rubble sandstone. There is a brick-built side addition, a base course, and a timber eaves course. The building has droved quoins and long and short surrounds to chamfered openings, painted mullions, and projecting cills.
On the south elevation, there is a gabled porch that projects at the center, featuring a modern door and side-lights. A shield embossed with 'W.C.L. 1852' is centered in the gablehead, which has decorative bargeboards and a kingpost truss. The ground floor has bipartite windows in a bay that is recessed to the right and two bays that are recessed to the left. There is a square-headed doorway to the outer right, and decorative bargeboards adorn the gabled dormerheads that break the eaves in four bays above. A single-storey lean-to addition is slightly recessed to the outer right.
The west elevation has a blind gable end. The north elevation features single windows centered on both floors, with a louvred window at the first floor to the outer right. There are various openings at ground level to the left of center.
The front of the building has 8-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, while some modern windows are present at the rear. The roof is slate, with brick-built ridge and apex stacks, although the cans are missing. The interior was not seen in 1999.
