Description
The Walled Garden at Spital, dated 1859, is a rectangular-plan garden located to the northwest of Spital House, covering approximately 2,000 square meters. It is enclosed by tall, tooled rubble sandstone walls with squared coping and droved sandstone dressings on the north, east, and west sides, while the south side features a lower swept wall. The inner linings of the walls are made of red brick, accented with cream sandstone ashlar dressings. There is a boarded timber door on the east side, which has a sandstone panel above it embossed with 'W C L 1859'. A lean-to potting shed is attached to the outer elevation of the north wall. Inside, there is a modern rectangular-plan greenhouse, and little remains of the original formal layout.
