Description
47 Castle Street in Duns is an early 19th-century building, likely incorporating older materials, with some later alterations. It consists of a pair of two-storey, two-bay terraced houses that were originally designed to mirror each other around the center. The first floor features a breaking eaves design with a gabled dormer head. The exterior is finished in harled rubble. Each outer bay has glazed doors accessed by steps, while the inner bays contain windows on both floors. The window for No 49 on the ground floor has been enlarged to a bipartite design with a timber mullion. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, including a four-pane window in the right dormer. The building has brick stacks, with early red brick on the south side, and is topped with grey slates. The rear elevation was not visible in 1993.
