Description

7 Factor's Park in Lauder is a pair of single-storey cottages built in the later 19th century, likely serving as a schoolhouse and the schoolmaster's cottage. They are arranged at right angles to create an L-shaped plan. Both cottages feature gabled porches and prominent timber mullioned and transomed windows with leaded diamond pane glazing. The exterior is made of coursed partially snecked whinstone with sandstone and red sandstone ashlar dressings, including sandstone quoins at the corners and red sandstone ashlar architraves around the openings.

For No. 7, the principal elevation has a slightly projecting central bay with a mullioned and transomed window and a sandstone panel above the gable. There are also mullioned and transomed windows set back in the flanking bays. A lower linking bay with a small window is set back to the outer right, adjoining No. 9. The west elevation features a gabled porch with a small window projecting to the left, and an entrance with a boarded timber door with strap hinges to the right. Another mullioned and transomed window is set back to the right. The north and east elevations were not inspected in 1998.

For No. 9, the entrance elevation has a gabled porch with a pendant timber finial projecting at the center, an entrance with a boarded timber door with strap hinges, and a small window possibly to the right return. There is a 3-light window set back to the right and a 2-light window set back to the left, adjoining the lower linking bay of No. 7 at the outer left. The south elevation features a mullion and transom window at the gable end. The north and east elevations were also not inspected in 1998.

Both cottages have leaded diamond pane casement windows throughout and grey slate roofs. Each cottage has a pair of yellow brick ridge stacks with band courses and round cans. The interiors were not inspected in 1998.
