1-17 The Counting House, Turners Avenue, Paisley

1-17 The Counting House on Turners Avenue in Paisley dates from around 1890, with later additions. This two-storey building features classical details and has an L-shaped plan with an infilled re-entrant angle at the rear, constructed from ashlar stone.

The north elevation consists of five irregular bays, with three bays advanced and one single-storey bay at the west end. It has a double-leaf panelled door flanked by sidelights and topped with a pediment, which is accessed by steps that include a pair of iron lamp standards. The ground and first floors have tripartite windows with architraves and pilaster mullions, with pediments in the recessed ground bays and the extension. A mutuled cornice runs above the ground floor.

The east elevation features nine bays with a variety of architraved windows and has simple cornices at both the ground and eaves levels. The roof is piended slate with corniced chimney stacks.
