Description
Monty's Snooker Hall, located at 58 Stock Street in Paisley, was designed by T G Abercrombie in 1898. This building is a symmetrical single-storey and attic structure with a seven-bay front, originally serving as public baths. It features a small domed ventilator tower and a converted hall behind. The exterior is constructed of red brick with red sandstone ashlar dressings.
The central entrance is simple and includes a modern canopy, with internal steps leading to modern doors. Above the entrance, the first floor breaks through the eaves and showcases a broad tripartite window that is bowed at the center, along with a tile-hung gablehead. The flanking wings are blank at ground level, with a later opening added to the far right. At the first floor, segmental-headed ashlar windows, adorned with roll-moulded architraves, break through the eaves. The tower at the central crossing has a tapered timber-framed square base, a narrow louvred drum, and is capped by a saucer and dome supported on secondary columns, topped with a ball finial. The single bay returns feature large blind arches at ground level and half-timbered gables.
The windows are timber sash and case, with multi-pane casements above the door. The roof is covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
