Description

96 Causeyside Street in Paisley is a tenement and shop designed by architect Archibald Gibson between 1905 and 1906 for grocer William Galbraith. The building stands four storeys tall, with two houses on each floor. Each house features a parlour and bedroom at the front and a kitchen at the rear. The main facade and layout are symmetrical above the ground floor, showcasing canted outer bays with steep roofs and finials. The central two-window section includes a window-balcony on the second floor, topped by a giant arch that supports a chimneyed gable head.

The exterior is constructed of dressed light-coloured ashlar, with original glazing retained as of 1996 on two of the houses. The windows feature single-paned lower sections and nine-paned upper sashes. The building has slate roofs and end stacks. At the rear, there is a central stair outshot flanked by scullery outshots, all finished in rough cast, while the main wall areas are made of snecked ashlar with polished dressings.

Inside, the building boasts high-quality plasterwork and timberwork.
