69, 71 South Methven Street, Perth

This building, located at 69 and 71 South Methven Street in Perth, dates from around 1840 and is a symmetrical, three-storey, eleven-bay Classical former warehouse that has been converted into flats with shops on the ground floor. The façade features ashlar stonework, with rubble at the rear and raised margins on the first floor. It has a cornice at the ground level, a cill course, and an eaves cornice. The central section is slightly advanced and quoined, with a three-bay pediment and central tripartite windows. The window openings on the first storey have cornices, with some being consoled and pedimented.

Some shop fronts include slender timber mullions, recessed doorways, and tiled lobbies. The central shop, numbered 65, has a part-glazed door topped with a scroll pediment. Clerestory lights feature barley-sugar twist mullions.

Inside, as seen in 2009, the shop at No 65 has some decorative cornicing, and one section includes a glass and timber cupola with a part-vaulted ceiling. The flats above are understood to have been modernised, according to the owner. The building predominantly has twelve-pane timber sash and case windows with horns, while the shops feature plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are gable and ridge stacks.
