Description
28, 30, 32 Allan Street in Blairgowrie is a 2-storey and attic, 3-bay flatted dwelling built in 1890, featuring shops on the ground floor. It is part of an irregular terrace on a slope that falls to the southeast. The building is constructed of squared rubble with ashlar margins and includes a ground floor cornice and frieze, as well as an eaves course. The windows are architraved with stone mullions.
The southeast elevation, which is the principal facade, has a traditional shop front located to the left of center on the ground floor. This shop front includes a deep-set, 2-leaf part-glazed timber door and a deep plate glass fanlight etched with 'Jas Crockart & Son/EST 1852' in the center. It is flanked by narrow piers leading to vertically-astragalled, 2-part fixed display windows and outer piers. To the right of center is a timber door with a fixed display window and an in-canted door beyond. The first floor features three bipartite windows, and above them is a timpany gable with a relief carved panel displaying 'JS' and '1890' at the center, along with timber-pedimented dormer windows over the outer bays.
The building has out-of-character glazing and is covered with grey slates. It features a shouldered, coped ashlar stack with a can and ashlar-coped skews.
Inside, No. 28 (Jas Crockart) retains a fine interior with boarded timber walls and moulded cornices. No. 30 has a pend entrance that leads to a curved staircase adorned with decorative cast-iron balusters and a timber handrail.
