Description

Millbank House, located at 8 Upper Mill Street in Blairgowrie, was built in 1839 and later extended to the rear in the 19th century. This two-storey, three-bay house is part of a terrace and features roughly coursed rubble with raised stone margins and a harled porch.

The southeast elevation is symmetrical, with a later porch that has a modern door at the center on the ground floor. There are windows in the flanking bays and regular fenestration close to the eaves on the first floor, along with a satellite dish to the right.

On the northeast elevation, there is a gabled bay to the left with a single window on the left at each floor and an additional window on the right at the first floor. The lower wing to the right has an asymmetrical arrangement of windows.

The house has out-of-character PVCu glazing and is topped with grey slates. It features coped rubble stacks with thackstanes and cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with flat skewputts.

Inside, the property includes some moulded cornices and a winding staircase with ironwork balusters and a ball-finialled timber newel post. There are two cast-iron fireplaces, one of which has fine tiled cheeks depicting a highland scene with a stag. The extension features carved timber fire surrounds, and there is an additional timber fire surround that incorporates an overmantel with a mirror and Art Nouveau style detail.
