Description

3-7 The Square in Aberfeldy is a late 19th-century, two-storey building with a basement and attic, featuring three bays and shops on the ground floor. It is constructed from squared chlorite-slate rubble with contrasting ashlar dressings. The ground floor has a cornice, and there are stop-chamfered pilasters, along with roll-moulded and chamfered arrises and stone mullions.

On the south elevation, the central bay at ground level has a panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight and flanking paired pilasters. To the right, there is a fixed display window with an in-canted door and flanking pilasters. The shop to the left also has dividing pilasters. A full-width fascia and cornice are present. The first floor features a tripartite window to the left, two windows to the right, and three steeply-pitched dormer windows above, with the left dormer being hoodmoulded and round-headed in a broader gablet.

The west elevation has a gabled appearance with two panelled timber doors with plate glass fanlights on the ground floor to the left, and two windows above.

On the north elevation, there are steps leading down to a basement door at the centre, with two margined stair windows above and a small pitch-roofed bay projecting to the left.

No 7, which has been converted into a restaurant, features a two-storey, four-bay house on the south courtyard elevation. It has a modern door to the right, windows in the flanking bays, and another door to the outer left. There is an ironwork forestair leading to a further door on the first floor to the left, with two windows to the right and another window to the outer left, all featuring dormerheads.

The building has a 4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, with modern glazing on the outer left first floor and attic on the south side. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans. The eaves overhang with plain bargeboarding and decorative cast-iron finials.
