Description
The Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society building, located at 6 Kings Place in Perth, is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay former villa that has been used as an office since 2009. The exterior features Baroque ornate carved consoles and segmental pediments at the ground level. It is constructed of ashlar stone with V-jointed long and short quoins, while the rear is made of rubble. The building has a base course and an eaves cornice, with raised architraves surrounding the upper floor windows. There are two later single-storey extensions added to the rear.
The entrance includes a central six-panel, two-leaf timber door that leads to a part-glazed internal door topped with a fanlight and a moulded door surround. Flanking the entrance are tripartite windows with stone mullions. The ground-floor openings are adorned with segmental-arched pediments that feature ornately carved swagged console brackets. The upper floor windows have metal balcony railings and stone, bracketed platforms.
The street-facing elevation predominantly showcases four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the rear has twelve-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is piended and covered with grey slates, and there are coped wallhead stacks with decorative cans.
Inside, as seen in 2009, the original room layout remains largely intact. The dog-leg staircase features decorative iron balusters and a timber handrail. The interior includes ornate plasterwork cornicing and ceiling roses, a marble fire surround in the public room, and four-panel timber doors.
