Description
5 Kings Place in Perth is a mid-19th century building featuring a three-storey, four-bay symmetrical corner block. It is set back from the street to the south and has a four-bay return to the east along King Street, comprising an office at No 5 and flats at No 4. The building has recessed two-storey entrance outshots to the east and west, as well as single-storey extensions at the rear to the north. It is constructed of coursed, tooled sandstone with raised ashlar margins and channelled quoins, while the rear is built of rubble. The design includes a base course and an eaves cornice, with corniced windows on the first floor.
The entrance outshots to the east and west feature four-panel timber doors with rectangular fanlights above, all set in moulded, lugged architraves. Above these entrances, there are narrow round-arched windows on the first floor. The main elevation to the south predominantly has four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the east and north sides have twelve-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is piended and covered with grey slates, featuring a central ridge stack and additional wallhead stacks.
Inside No 5, as observed in 2009, the original room plan remains largely intact. It includes a dog-leg stair with iron balusters and a timber handrail, some decorative cornices, one marble fire surround, and other simple fire surrounds, along with four-panel timber doors.
