St Mary's Monastery, Kinnoull, Perth

St Mary's Monastery in Kinnoull, Perth, was built between 1868 and 1870 by Andrew Heiton. It is designed as a U-plan courtyard group that opens on the east side. The monastic buildings are in the Gothic style and consist of three storeys, including an attic and basement, taking advantage of the sloping ground. The main structure is a rubble-built L-plan with ashlar dressings.

The south range features an oratory with a corbelled altar area and a turret at the angle to the courtyard. The west range includes a square tower with a high roof located in the re-entrant angle near the south end of the west front, along with a central double stair built in 1868.

The chapel is situated on the north side of the courtyard, oriented with the presbytery to the west. It has a cruciform shape in the Early English and Early Decorated styles, featuring an aisled four-bay nave with a clerestory and porch. The transepts are adorned with tall triple lancets, while the aisleless apse has niches and circular upper windows on a high basement, flanked by a circular belfry spirelet. The aisle windows are designed as twin lancets, and the clerestory and upper apse windows are quatrefoiled circles.
