Description

Andrew Heiton 1868-70. U-plan courtyard group open on E side,

monastic buildings Gothic, 3-storey attic and basement in

fall of ground, rubble-built L-plan with ashlar dressings, S

range has oratory with corbelled altar area and turret in

angle to court, W range has square tower with high roof in

re-entrant angle near S end of W front, central double stair,

  1. Chapel lies on N side of court, oriented with

presbytery at W, cruciform EE/Early Dec., aisled 4-bay nave

with clerestory and porch, transepts with tall triple

lancets, aisleless niched apse with circular upper windows on

high basement flanked by circular belfry spirelet. Aisle

windows are twin lancets, clerestory and upper apse windows

are quatrefoiled circles.
