Description

Mount Tabor Cottage is an early 19th century cottage located on Mount Tabor Road in Perth. It is notable as the childhood home of Sir Patrick Geddes, who lived from 1854 to 1932. The cottage has a rectangular plan and is a single storey with an attic, though it has undergone several alterations in the 1970s. The original three-bay arrangement is still visible on the western elevation, which features a modern flat-roofed dormer window flanked by canted dormers in the attic. The 1970s modifications include a prominent glazed flat-roofed porch on the main elevation, a large single-storey extension on the northern elevation, two inserted windows on the southern elevation, and various changes to the rear. The cottage has modern uPVC windows and is constructed with coursed whinstone on the main elevation, while the other sides are random whinstone. The principal elevation features droved long and short margins around the openings, pitched slate roofs, and corniced stacks with decorative cans; part of the southern side is rendered, and the northern side is finished in ashlar.

Inside, the cottage has been largely modernised but retains some original features, including panelled doors.

There is a small former wash house that has been incorporated into the boundary wall to the south of the cottage. This outbuilding is made of random whinstone and has a slate roof with a brick stack on the eastern side.

The boundary wall, made of random whinstone, runs along Mount Tabor Road and turns west for a short distance, stepping up to the upper southeast.
