Description

This building, known as Works, located at 113, 115, 117, and 119 Glover Street in Perth, was designed by James Marshall in 1903. It is a single storey and attic bobbin factory with a shallow U-plan and features Glasgow Style details. The structure is made of red brick with stone coping and includes a recessed arcade with a cill course at the ground floor, a brick corbel above, and pilasters that divide the bays. The wallhead is raised and corniced above the pilasters, with hoodmoulded oculi set in the attic gableheads, stylized Dutch gables, and a coped parapet.

The principal elevation on the northeast side is symmetrical with seven bays, each divided by brick pilasters and featuring round-arched windows. There is a hoodmould over a former doorway in the outer right bay, which has been blocked to create a pedestrian doorway. The central and outer bays have gables, and there are four semi-circular dormers.

The northwest elevation facing Blair Street has four bays, with round-arched windows in three bays on the outer left. The outer left has two gabled bays, and there is a pedestrian doorway flanked by windows in the outer right bay.

The southeast elevation is M-gabled with four bays, featuring a blinded arch in the outer right bay and a window in the adjoining bay. The remaining bays are obscured by a garage, and there is a grey brick flat-roofed addition between the gables.

The southwest rear elevation includes a single storey painted brick addition situated between the original wings, featuring metal-framed windows and a grey slate roof, with a small-pane timber glazing pattern.
