Description
Parkhead Farmhouse is a mid-19th century building, likely incorporating some earlier elements. It is a tall single storey and attic farmhouse with a lean-to wing at the rear, designed in an L-plan with three bays. The structure is built from squared and snecked rubble, featuring contrasting sandstone ashlar dressings and squared rubble quoins. Notable architectural details include corbels, pointed-arch windows, chamfered reveals, and stone mullions.
On the south elevation, there is a gabled bay to the right of center, which has a slate-roofed canted tripartite window on the ground floor and a small bipartite window above it in a steeply-pitched gablehead topped with a stone finial. To the left, there is a lean-to timber porch in the re-entrant angle and another bipartite window to the outer left, situated below a widely spread corbel course.
The east elevation features two bipartite windows, along with a square-headed window in the lower lean-to bay that clasps the outer right angle. The west elevation has a gabled design with a bipartite window on each floor.
On the north elevation, there is a door at the center of the lean-to wing, flanked by two windows to the right, a window in the penultimate bay to the left, and another door beyond to the outer left. There is also a window set into the recessed face of the gablehead at the outer left. All openings on this elevation are square-headed.
The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames. The building features coped ashlar and render stacks with a full complement of cans, as well as moulded ashlar-coped skews and skewputts.
