Description
St Peter's Church in South Ronaldsay dates back to 1642 and was renovated and re-roofed in 1801. It is a rectangular-plan gabled church with four bays, featuring four arched windows and an off-centre round-arched doorway on the southeast elevation. Above the door, there are date stones from 1642 and 1801. The southwest gable has an arched window and a small bellcote that houses a bell. On the northeast gable, there is a 19th-century lean-to porch or vestry. The church is finished with roughcast harl and ashlar skews. It has timber sash and case windows with a gothick-arched glazing pattern in the tympanum. The roof is covered with graded Orkney slate and has a stone ridge, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
