32 Broad Street, Kirkwall

32 Broad Street in Kirkwall is a house built around 1825. It is a two-storey building with an attic and has a symmetrical, rectangular plan with three bays. The house is adjacent to Number 3 Palace Road at the rear and features a central tympany gable with gabletted dormers on either side that break the eaves. The exterior is harled, with concrete cills.

On the north elevation, which is the principal facade, the doorway has been infilled to create a window in the central bay at ground level, with a window above it on each floor. There is a gablehead stack on the tympany gable, and each of the flanking bays also has a window on each floor.

The east side elevation has two bays, with a window on each floor in the right bay. There is a modern part-glazed door at ground level in the left bay, along with a window on the first floor and a gablehead stack above.

The west side elevation also has two bays, with a window on each floor in both bays and a gablehead stack above.

The house features a variety of glazing patterns, including 12-pane and 9-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof has been replaced with traditional graded stone tiles, and there are harled, corniced stacks along with cast-iron rainwater goods. The interiors were not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
