Description
The War Memorial on Aitchison Street in Airdrie was designed by J M Arthur and completed in 1922. This memorial features a severe classical design, consisting of a square-plan column set on a broad plinth. It is constructed from grey granite and includes inlaid metal text on the plinth, along with a sword and wreath device on the column. The plinth has chamfered corner blocks that are dated 1939, 1945, and 1914, 1918 on alternating sides. Additionally, there is a roll of honour on the sides of the plinth, and the top of the plinth bears the inscription, "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THE TOWN OF AIRDRIE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR."
