Description
The War Memorial in The Square, Tarland, was created by sculptor Robert Warwick Morrison in 1920, working for Stewart and Co. It features a tapered, square-plan column on a double plinth, which supports a full-sized statue of a Gordon Highlander resting on his rifle. The memorial is made of rusticated granite and includes polished granite name plaques that display the parish roll of honour. The column is inscribed at the top with the words, 'WE GRATEFULLY REMEMBER ALL THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR'.
