Silverbank, Whiting Bay, Arran

Silverbank is a villa dating from around 1840. It is a two-storey, symmetrical building with three bays, designed in a Classical style, originally with a wing extending to the north. The walls are harled, with contrasting margins defining the edges. The roof is slate, with deep eaves. The windows are timber sash and case windows with 12 panes to each sash. Stacks (chimneys) have been removed.

The front elevation features a central, two-leaf timber panelled door, with a projecting cornice above. There are windows to either side of the door, and three windows on the upper floor. There are also two windows visible on the right return elevation.

The interior layout largely retains its original form. Some simple cornicing and timber fire surrounds remain.

Silverbank is a fine, symmetrical villa in a prominent location within Whiting Bay, with a large grassy area to the front. The deep eaves and window pattern contribute significantly to the character of the house. The building is shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1864.
