Description
The Cameronia Hotel, built around 1900, is an irregularly planned, two-storey and attic villa in the Arts and Crafts style. It is constructed of bull-faced and snecked rubble red sandstone with ashlar dressings to the ground floor, and harled to the upper floor. The roof is slate, swept to the eaves, with terracotta ridge tiles. The windows are timber sash and case, with single panes at the bottom and multiple panes at the top, some of which have been altered. The building features bracketted eaves, some half-timbering to the gables, plain bargeboards, tall stacks with corniced ashlar copes and uniform terracotta cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
The front elevation has a door to the right return of a slightly lower two-bay gable recessed in the centre. A tripartite window is present to the front, with a bipartite window above. A recessed bay to the right holds two windows, and a two-bay open porch with a modern glazed roof sits within the re-entrant angle. A three-light cat-slide dormer is also present. The principal gable advances to the left, displaying a four-light window on the ground floor and a three-light rectangular oriel with sidelights on the first floor.
The left return elevation includes a modern addition to the ground floor on the left side, with two windows, and a bipartite window with a gabled dormerhead above on the first floor, alongside a single window to the right. A three-light cat-slide dormer is also situated here.
The right return elevation has two windows on the ground floor and a canted oriel to the first floor left, with a slightly advanced gable engaged at the left pitch and half-timbered to the apex, with a single window to the right. The rear elevation remains unseen.
The interior is not visible.
The property is bordered by two coped bull-faced ashlar gatepiers and low coped snecked rubble boundary walls. The statutory address is Isle of Arran, Whiting Bay, Cameronia Hotel, including gatepiers and boundary walls.
