Invermay Hotel, Whiting Bay, Arran

The Invermay Hotel is a villa dating from 1903, built in a highly individual design. It is a two-storey and attic, three-bay, rectangular building with a lower service wing to the rear. The front ground floor is constructed of bull-faced stugged red sandstone; the rest of the building is harled, with a grey slate gambrel roof. The first floor is corbelled out, with further corbelled panels to the outer bays of the front elevation, which features modillioned eaves. The windows are mostly timber sash and case, with single-pane glazing to the bottom and multi-pane to the top, although some are modern. Dormers have been added to both the front and rear. Stacks have been removed.

The front elevation contains a modern, out-of-character door in the centre, framed by a margined doorcase, with a date panel above. Small, canted-head multi-pane windows are located to the left and right of the door. A four-light mullioned window is flanked by single vertical lights on the first floor. A modern cat-slide dormer is also present. The bays to the left and right incorporate a recessed three-light canted window on the ground floor, and a piended dormer-headed window on the first floor.

The left return elevation has two widely spaced ground floor windows, a single first-floor window, and a modern dormer window to the gambrel roof. The right return elevation is similar, with two windows on the first floor.

The interior has not been inspected.

The property is enclosed by ashlar gatepiers with moulded caps and a saddleback-coped rubble boundary wall.
