Description
The Town House at 14-16 The Cross in Dalry was built in 1853 and is a two-storey building with five bays, designed in a Classical style. The exterior features polished ashlar stone, with the ground floor painted. The three central bays are advanced and pedimented, with pilasters on the ground floor. There are a pair of Ionic columns flanked by outer pilasters on the first floor, which support a pediment that encloses a clock and decorative foliated carving.
Above, there is a square-plan round-arched cupola topped with a lead dome and an acorn finial. The ground floor outer bays have altered shop windows. A continuous cornice runs above the ground floor, while the first floor has round-arched pilastered windows with decorative keystones, and the outer windows are set in shallow recessed panels. The building also features a continuous dentilled cornice and a blocking course. It has an end stack and a slate roof.
