Description
This is a two-storey and attic commercial building with a basement, dating from the earlier 19th century. It is located at 67-69 Main Street, Kilbirnie, and also includes the property at 71 Main Street. The building is symmetrical in design and constructed of ashlar stone, with polished dressings. A central recessed three-centred-arched pend features pilastered jambs, a fanlight, and an architrave terminating in a consoled pediment. Flanking the pend are wide doors and shop windows, all with moulded architraves; the left-hand door also has a fanlight. A continuous band course runs above the ground floor, and a moulded cill course is present at the first floor level. Four first-floor windows retain their original 12-pane glazing and are set within lugged architraves. Giant outer pilasters support the main entablature and a blocking course. The roof is slate-covered and features end stacks. A central box dormer has been added, which is considered an unfortunate alteration.
