55, 57 Main Street, Kilbirnie

This is an earlier 19th-century building on Main Street, Kilbirnie, originally comprising two shops. It is two storeys and an attic in height, with three bays. The lower level is built with rusticated ashlar, while the dressings are polished. Originally, there were two entrances in the centre of the building; the left-hand entrance has since been converted into a window, with larger shop windows now occupying the outer bays. A band course runs above the ground floor. The first floor has three sash windows set within architraves, with a continuous cill course extending across. Panelled pilasters are visible on the ends of the first floor. The building is finished with an eaves course, a cornice, a blocking course, and a central wall-head pediment topped by a stack. Two box dormers are set into the roof, along with an end stack, all under a slate roof.
