Description
This late 19th-century memorial commemorates William Walker, located on Main Street, Kilbirnie. It takes the form of a statue sculpted by D.W. Stevenson. The monument consists of a square ashlar plinth upon which stands a female figure in flowing robes. The west front of the plinth features a bronze bust of Dr Walker. An inscription is present on the opposite face, reading "Wm Walker MD 1807-1885. In grateful memory of a life devoted to the well-being of the people. The Faithful Physician.” Coiled serpents are positioned on either side of the plinth between the bust and inscription. The figure holds an overturned jar resting on a round pedestal, which is itself encircled by a snake. The right hand of the figure has suffered damage and is no longer present.
