Description
Northfield is an asymmetrical 2-storey villa built around 1830, designed in the style of David and James Hamilton. The villa features Tudor details and is harled with ashlar dressings, including a porch.
On the south elevation, there are 7 bays, with an off-centre door located behind a basket-arched gabled porch. Above the door is a single window, and in the left bay, there is a single window that is hood-moulded and blind at the ground floor. The elevation also includes a tall, paired, corbelled, octagonal wall-head stack. To the right, there is an advanced gabled bay with hood-moulded sashes featuring lying-pane glazing and a round-headed attic light. There are three additional bays to the right, with the outer bay having an advanced gable and lying-pane sashes.
The west elevation consists of 4 bays, with the two outer bays being advanced and gabled. The left side has a projecting ground floor window, while the right side features a canted window. The first-floor windows are hood-moulded, and the central ground floor sashes also have hood-moulds. The first-floor windows are set beneath a basket-arched eaves course that is raised and finialled. The villa is topped with an octagonal gable-head, wall-head, and ridge stacks, along with gable finials. The slate roof is adorned with decorative ridge tiles.
