Description
St Giles, located at 9 High Street in Elgin, is a building designed by Andrew Heiton from Perth in 1893, showcasing a Scots Baronial style. The structure is asymmetrical, featuring two storeys and an attic, constructed from bull-faced rubble with ashlar dressings. The entrance is situated in a drum tower on the west gable, which includes a re-used panel above it.
To the right, there is an advanced crowstepped bay with a tripartite window arrangement on the ground floor and two windows on the first floor. At the attic level, a bowed oriel window is present. The ground floor has chamfered corners that are corbelled to a square shape at the first floor. A recessed bay contains ground floor windows arranged in a 1-2-1 pattern, with a single bipartite window on the first floor. The basement features vents designed as gunloops. The building is topped with crowstepped gables and has a slate roof.
Additionally, there are decorative cast-iron railings surrounding the property, and a modern wing has been added to the rear.
