Description
This is a rectangular burial ground located on the site of a former church, situated on Lady Hill in Davoch of Grange. The ground is partially enclosed to the north by cast-iron spearhead railings set upon a low, coped wall, with an entrance flanked by plain gatepiers. In 1833, several 18th-century memorials and tombstones were removed from the ruins of the old church and reset within a coped rubble plinth near the entrance. The site formerly held a chapel of ease dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and later a parish church, which was in a dilapidated condition by 1791. This church was replaced by a new parish church on a nearby site in 1795. Information from The Statistical Account (1791, Witherington and Grant edition, page 222) and the New Statistical Account (1842, page 218) provides further details.
