Description

The Bridge of Grange is a 1699 pedestrian bridge, widened in 1783 to accommodate wheeled traffic. Built by Alexander Christie, a tenant in Cantley, the bridge was intended to facilitate access to the church on the north side of the River Isla for parishioners living on the south side.

The bridge is a single span of rubble construction, sloping from north to south. The high-tooled rubble arch ring springs from renewed rendered abutments, with a later masonry buttress on the northwest side of the bridge. A low-tooled rubble parapet flanks the bridge, featuring splayed approaches and three cast-iron stays. The approximate span is 30 feet.
