Description
69-71 High Street in Forres is a building designed by architect John Urquhart in 1845. It stands three storeys tall and has six bays. The front is made of ashlar stone with dressings, while the rear and sides are constructed from rubble. The end bays are framed by large pilasters on the upper floors and topped with block pediments, which are also above the tall first-floor windows. The windows feature lying-pane glazing. There is a bracketed entablature and a cill course on the second floor. The building has panelled stacks at the ends and a slate roof. The ground floor has a modern front. Additionally, there is a return elevation to Caroline Street that includes an early decorative skewputt, which is likely reused.
