Description
1 North College Street in Elgin is a mid to late 19th century, two-storey and attic building that features five bays, along with an additional recessed bay facing North College Street. The entrance is located in the re-entrant angle of the structure. The building is constructed of finely tooled ashlar stone, with polished ashlar dressings and a rusticated plinth.
On the ground floor, there are round-headed pilastered windows that have advanced keystones and panelled aprons. The first floor showcases tall corniced windows with lugged architraves that open onto a shallow stone balcony adorned with decorative cast-iron railings. The south gable features a canted oriel window on the first floor, which overlooks South College Street. Additional architectural details include a bracketed cornice, a parapet, three piended dormers, crowstepped gables, and a slate roof.
