Description
Sulva Cottage, located at 275 High Street in Elgin, was built by J and W Wittet between 1919 and 1920. This structure consists of a mirrored pair of single-storey, three-bay cottages that are symmetrically arranged on either side of paired loggias that lead up to steps towards Lady Hill. Each cottage is constructed from bullfaced rubble with tooled ashlar dressings and features a five-sided projecting inner angle bay topped with a hexagonal pyramidal roof and a weathervane. The outer bay has a tripartite design with a swept roof and 2-pane glazing. There are porches at the outer gable ends, crowstepped gables, and end stacks, all covered by Caithness slate roofs. The loggias are adorned with paired basket-arched arcades, built from rubble and incorporating reused pediments from earlier properties in Elgin.
