42 Land Street is a house dating from around 1800, featuring two storeys and four bays. The exterior is made of harl pointed rubble with tooled rubble dressings, and the southern end gable is harled. There are two small first-floor windows positioned close to the eaves, along with a single first-floor gable window, all primarily featuring four-pane glazing. The roof is covered with felt tiles and has coped end and ridge stacks.

At the rear of the property is a former steading, which consists of a low single-storey rubble building that served as a byre and barn. This structure has two entrances on the eastern elevation and a single entrance at the rear, along with a small gable window and small rear vents. The original thatched roof has been replaced with a corrugated iron roof.

Additionally, a drystone rubble wall encloses the rear garden, which includes two irregular square bee or chancery boles on the southern face.
