Glencorse Barracks, Penicuik

Glencorse Barracks, built around 1880, is a two-storey gabled barrack range constructed from bull-faced yellow sandstone with stugged dressings and chamfered arrises. It features a part base course and stone mullions. The building has a near symmetrical design, with metal balconies supported by cast-iron columns that span between the advanced bays of the southeast elevation.

On the southeast elevation, there is a two-bay advanced gable at the center, which includes bipartite windows on both floors and paired arrowslits in the gablehead. To the left, there is a three-bay balcony with paired windows and single doors in the re-entrant angles on each floor. To the right, a four-bay balcony has a door flanked by paired windows on both floors. The outer advanced gabled bays feature tripartite windows on each floor, along with arrowslits in the gableheads. The recessed outer block to the south has paired windows, a door, and a first-floor window in a gabled return.

The windows are small-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are shouldered stone ridge stacks with stone coping on the stacks and gableheads. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 2000.
