Description
The Tower at Penicuik House was built between 1748 and 1751. It is a circular structure with three storeys, constructed from coursed rubble and featuring a machicolated parapet. The porch has an inscription above the inner door. Inside, there is an unusual layout with an inner tower surrounded by narrow passages. The first storey includes a doocot, which has 1,356 nest-holes, and there is a turnpike stair.
