Description
The stables at Penicuik House, built in 1760 by Sir James Clerk, are a Georgian structure featuring four arms surrounding a central yard. The building is two storeys high and constructed from snecked rubble, with the entrance front made of ashlar stone. It includes round-arched recesses, a portico, and a Gibbsian steeple.
On the north side of the yard is a doocot, which is a reproduction of Arthur's O'on. This octagonal structure has a pedimented ashlar front with a round arch and is topped by a high dome. Inside, it boasts an impressive circular design with a potence and 804 net holes, as well as a turnpike stair.
