Description
Penicuik House, built in 1761 by Sir James Clerk, is a long oblong block featuring a piano nobile with an attic storey above the cornice and a basement. The building is constructed of ashlar and is currently roofless. It has corniced windows and a central hexastyle portico with a two-way stair. The end bays project and include Palladian windows. At the rear, there is a central gabled projecting bay with broken-pedimented windows, which is approached by a bridge. The interior has been gutted but once contained many fine rooms.
