Description
Lugton Bridge, located on Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith, dates back to 1765 and was remodeled in 1816. This road bridge runs on a north-south axis and features a single span with a low segmental arch. To the south, there is a buttress on the left side. The bridge is constructed from rubble, with ashlar voussoirs and intrados. It has a squared rubble parapet adorned with ashlar dressings. Below the parapet, there is a mutuled course, and the parapet includes a recessed panel detail. The parapet is raised at the sides and in the center. In the center, there are panels inscribed with "Lugton Bridge. Built 1765. Widened and improved 1816" on the north side, and "Lugton Bridge. Built 1765. Widened - the approaches improved 1816" on the south side.
