78, 80, and 82 St Andrew Street in Dalkeith is a block of three local authority houses built around 1930. The building is two stories high and has five bays arranged in a 2-1-2 pattern. It features a harled exterior with a base course and a cill course at the first floor, along with gabled dormerheads.

On the west elevation facing St Andrew Street, there is a painted panel in the center bay, corniced between the floors and at the eaves. Above the two-leaf door, there is a recessed panel, and a bipartite lunette window is located at the first floor. The ground and first floors have a regular arrangement of windows.

The north elevation has a door at the center and a window at the first floor. The left side of this elevation is advanced, with a roof that sweeps down. There is a window at the ground floor and a dormer-headed window at the first floor to the left of center.

The south elevation is a mirror image of the north elevation. The east elevation features a regularly arranged pattern of windows.

The building has regrettable replacement windows with plate glass glazing. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with grey slates, and there are harled stacks at the center of the north and south pitches.
